Organization
The Organization app is your central hub for managing all organizational entities โ customers, manufacturers, distributors, and sales companies. Organizations serve as a single source of truth, with all users, assets, and systems linked to them, ensuring consistent and accurate data across the entire platform.
๐๏ธ What Is an Organization?โ
An Organization represents any business entity in your ecosystem. Every user, asset, and system belongs to exactly one organization at a time.

What an Organization Containsโ

|---|---|
| Assets | Equipment owned by the organization |
| Systems | Facilities and locations owned by the organization |
| Users | People who belong to the organization |
| Organization Admins | Users who manage the organization |
๐๏ธ Organization Hierarchy (Parent & Child Organizations)โ
Organizations can be nested โ a parent organization can have one or more child organizations, forming a tree structure that mirrors your real-world business relationships.
How It Worksโ
Acme Manufacturing (Parent)
โโโ Acme East Region (Child)
โ โโโ Acme Boston Office (Child)
โ โโโ Acme New York Office (Child)
โโโ Acme West Region (Child)
โ โโโ Acme LA Office (Child)
โโโ Acme Service Partners (Child)
- A child organization is created by selecting a Parent Organization during the creation wizard (Step 1).
- Child organizations inherit the same structure (they have their own users, assets, systems, and security groups) but are visually and logically grouped under their parent.
- There is no limit to nesting depth โ you can create multi-level hierarchies.
Key Behaviorsโ
| Behavior | Description |
|---|---|
| Independent access | Each child organization has its own security group. Users in a child org can only see their own assets โ not the parent's or siblings'. |
| Parent visibility | Platform administrators can view and manage all child organizations from the parent. |
| Org Admin scope | An Organization Admin of a parent org does not automatically have admin rights over child orgs. Each child's admins are assigned separately. |
| Asset/User assignment | Assets, systems, and users belong to one specific organization (parent or child) โ not to the entire hierarchy. |
| Reporting roll-up | Business Outcomes reports can aggregate data across a parent and its children when the user has access to multiple organizations. |
When to Use Child Organizationsโ
| Scenario | Structure |
|---|---|
| Regional offices | Parent = Company, Children = Regional branches |
| Dealer networks | Parent = OEM, Children = Individual dealers |
| Multi-site customers | Parent = Customer HQ, Children = Plant/site locations |
| Divisions or business units | Parent = Corporation, Children = Business units |
| Franchise models | Parent = Franchisor, Children = Individual franchisees |
Creating a Child Organizationโ
- Click โ on the Organizations List to start the creation wizard.
- In Step 1 (Organization Info), select the Parent Organization from the dropdown.
- Complete the remaining steps as usual (admins, permissions, assets, roles).
- The new organization appears nested under its parent in the organization list.
๐ก You can convert a standalone organization into a child by editing it and setting a Parent Organization. Similarly, you can remove the parent to make it standalone again.
